Course Aim



The aim of this course is to provide professional tutors with the skill sets and confidence in order to undertake the role of 'DSL' according to current legislation of Government guidance.


This course is designed for the following delegates:

  • Those working as sole providers of tutoring
  • Those working for agencies
  • Those employing other tutors



Learning outcomes include:


  • To explore the role of the tutor in terms of safeguarding
  • To examine the role of a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • To understand and respond to current legislation and guidance relating to tutoring
  • The importance of being child focused
  • A reminder about safeguarding and the child protection process
  • To be able to use Partnership Thresholds and make referrals
  • To understand the concept of contextual safeguarding
  • Be able to describe child exploitation and the various forms and to understand The Prevent Duty
  • To be able to make effective decisions according to risk.
